Clare Gardai are urging people to ensure their tyres are in a fit state before taking to the roads this Bank Holiday weekend.
The force will have an increased presence around the county in the coming days and will be placing special emphasis on the detection of poor tyres.
Recent research from the Road Safety Authority shows defective tyres contributed to the deaths of 71 people on Irish roads in the four years to 2012.
