Two people have been taken to hospital after being rescued from the river Shannon last evening.

A man and a woman, had been jet skiing on the river at Fort Henry, near Killaloe when they got into difficulty.

Emergency services were alerted around 8 o'clock last night after locals in a nearby house spotted the pair in the water after their jet ski had capsized.

The Killaloe Unit of the Irish Coast Guard, Ambulance and Gardaí attended the scene.

The man and the woman, who are believed to be in their twenties, were assisted from the water by Gardaí and transferred by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where they're being treated for mild hypothermia and exhaustion.
