The Garda Commissioner will face public questioning today over the Gardaí's attitude to whistleblowers.
Nóirín O'Sullivan will be called before a public hearing of the new Policing Authority.
Nóirín O'Sullivan had been due to attend a public hearing of the newly-established authority towards the end of this month.
But a special private meeting was called in the wake of the findings of the O'Higgins Report, and after a four-hour grilling, the authority decided to hold TWO public hearings with her instead.
The Authority has been stinging in its criticism of the Gardaí following the O'Higgins Report. In a hard-hitting statement last month it noted that many of the criticisms laid out by Justice Kevin O'Higgins had also been raised by the Garda Inspectorate, GSOC, and the Oireachtas.
Nóirín O'Sullivan has insisted the force remains open and accommodating to whistleblowers, but she'll be questioned on exactly what changes she's made to ensure this.
And she'll also be questioned about the treatment of Garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe – and the reasons why her legal team set out to question his motivation and credibility, when she says they weren’t instructed to.
