Galway University Hospital is one of three hospitals failing to meet HSE targets on waiting times for ambulances.

It's reported that paramedics have been delayed in getting to emergencies because they're being forced to wait to hand over patients at emergency departments.

Ambulances are waiting an over an hour at least 1,100 times a month due to overcrowding in EDs with just four out of 26 meeting HSE targets of turning around 50 per cent of ambulances in under 20 minutes.

UHG, Mayo General and Cork University Hospital faired the worst in the new figures.
