A report commissioned by the Transport Minister Leo Varadkar recommends that Shannon Airport is separated from the Dublin Airport Authority.
The report, carried out by Booz Consultants, found that Cork airport has too much debt to stand alone.

It’s believed separating Shannon from the DAA will allow it to remain in State hands and to compete effectively with Dublin and Cork for customers.
The governement is not expected to make any decision on the future on the midwest airprt until the new year
