Motorist In Clare Among Top Speed Offenders During Operation Slow Down

A motorist was detected travelling almost 30 kilometres per hour over the legal limit in Newmarket-on-Fergus yesterday, during a major crackdown on speeding nationwide. 

The vehicle was caught travelling at 108 kilometeres per hour in an 80km zone on R458 at Ballyconneely. 

Extra gardai were present on roads across the county as part of National Slow Down Day, which aims to highlight the dangers of speeding – a factor in 1 in 3 fatal crashes. 

In total Gardai and GoSafe checked over 135,000 vehicles around Ireland, detecting 341 people travelling in excess of the speed limit.
