The Government is again refuting claims that it's turning a blind eye to how Shannon Airport is used by the US military.

In the Seanad, Limerick Sinn Fein Senator Paul Gavan claimed military hardware has been transferred through the Midwest airport, which has later gone on to be used in bombing missions in Yemen.

However, speaking on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan, Deputy Damien English insisted there are strict rules in place, which forbid the transport of any material that's to be used in military operations through Shannon.

Deputy English says the flights in question fully complied with these regulations.
