Speaking to Clare FM’s Gavin Grace on The Afternoon Show today was Dr. Katherine O’Donnell, a member of the Advisory Group with the Justice for Magdalene Campaign. The Mayor of Clare has apologised on behalf of Clare County Council for its role in sending three women to a Magdalene Laundry. The McAleese report into state involvement in the Magdalene Laundries found that a former Clare County manager had signed orders sending the women to one such institution in Limerick in the 1940s and 1950s.

Brid Kennedy is the regional Director with Concern Worldwide and has worked in North Korea with the charity organisation.  She spoke to Gavin about how they yesterday announced that it is withdrawing its staff from North Korea later this week. However today they say they will await further advice from Brussels on whether or not they will need to. Concern is one of only six international Non-Governmental organisation working in North Korea. The decision to withdraw had been made after a warning was issued by the North Korean government – that it could no longer take responsibility for the safety of staff working with international aid agencies.

Tom Parlon is Director General of the Construction Industry Federation and joined Gavin on the show ahead of a special conference discussing the 2013 outlook for the local construction industry in Clare and the surrounding counties. These issues and more will be discussed at the CIF briefing, in Limerick on Wednesday 10th April.   Also up[ for discussion will be the implementation of the newly announced building regulations, the review of the Government construction contracts which are due to take place in the coming months, the Construction Contracts Bill and the registered employment agreement (REA) for the construction industry.

Molly Muldoon is Deputy Editor at Irish Central in Manhattan and spoke with Clare FM’s Máire Moynahan about what’s making headlines stateside – including how Irish emigrants are sending home close to a billion euro to help pay off mortgage debt and about speculation that Hillary Clinton will contest the next US presidential Election.

Michael Donnellan, Ennis man and World Champion Irish Dancer was also a guest of the programme to talk about his upcoming show in Glor. Michael took up Irish Dance at the age of five and at the age of 12 he won the Munster, All Ireland, Great Britain and British National Championships; then capped off the year by winning the World Championships. At the age of 19 he became a professional dancer, taking a major part in Lord of the Dance. Less than a year later he danced the lead role in Riverdance.
