Joining Gavin Grace on The Friday Panel on today’s edition of The Afternoon Show was Aine Mae O’Mahony from Clahane, Claire Gallagher of The Clare People and John Quinlivan, formerly of Shannon Development and facilitator with Clare Connect.  They were in studio to talk about a number of topics that have featured heavily in this week’s news. They discussed how the Croke Park II deal has been rejected and asked – is Ireland headed for strikes?  The Public Expenditure Minister won’t say whether he’ll legislate to implement a pay cut across the board on public servants. Brendan Howlin had threatened such a move if the Croke park II deal was rejected – which unions did earlier this week. Mr. Howlin says the result does not change the fact the coalition needs to save 300 million euro this year. They also spoke about how the constitutional convention is calling for a referendum in Ireland on gay marriage. It comes as New Zealand becomes the 19th country to legalise it.  Our panel were asked – Is it time for Ireland to follow suit?   They also spoke about their reaction to the Boston bombings. One of the men believed to be behind the Boston marathon bombings, on Monday, has been shot dead by police, while a major manhunt is now underway in the Watertown area of the city for a second man also believed to have been involved in the attack. They also discussed how fans of TV show – Friends, are disappointed after rumours of a comeback were quashed.  Gavin asked what TV show of yester year do you want to see return?

On today’s Friday Feature – Horticulturist and Gardening Expert, Philip Moreau from Tuamgraney was in studio to answer your queries. Philip answered your queries on all things related to the garden – and spoke in particular about what should be going in the ground at this time.

Also joining the show this afternoon was Diarmuid Whelan who let listeners know about a fundraising walk, which will be held this Sunday April 21st for the Scattery Island gathering.  The Ferry will be departing Kilrush Marina at 2pm and tickets are available form Crotty’s Bar, Brew’s and Whelan’s Mace.

Kevin McGillicuddy from Clare FM Sport was also in studio to preview the weekend sporting action and to let us know what’s coming up on this evening’s Sideline View.
