Joining Máire Moynahan on today’s edition of The Afternoon Show was Arthur Watson, Poet and member of Clare Three Legged Stool Poets, to discuss the passing of Seamus Heaney and the legacy that he’s left behind. Arthur is a Belfast native living in the outskirts of Tulla and has been a member of the Clare Three Legged Stool Poets for the last 10 to 15 years.  He read at Coleraine in 1971 with Seamus Heaney. Mass for the Nobel laureate took place at the Sacred heart Church in Donnybrook in Dublin today and was buried afterwards in his native Bellaghy in Co. Derry. Mr Heaney, who died on Friday was aged 74 and is survived by his wife Marie and his three children.  The Clare Three Legged Stool Poets gather every third Saturday in Glor’s Theatre 2 for readings. Michael John O’Mahoney works with the Environmental Education Unit at An Taisce and joined the show to discuss how An Taisce’s Green-Schools Programme reached a record level during the last school year with over 90% of schools in Ireland, equivalent to 800,000 students and teachers, participating in the programme. Participating primary, secondary and special schools directly saved in excess of €8m in waste, energy, water and transport fuel costs during the last school year. Darragh native Dermot Sheedy is the Bodhran Player with Limerick / Clare group Hermitage Green and joined the show to talk about bodhran playing and gave our listeners a tutorial in bodhran musicianship. Hermitage Green formed in July 2010 and have gone from strength to strength since with performances at home and abroad.  They also played Electric Picnic this weekend. Eanna Mulvihill and Oisin Hickey, two young musicians from Meelick, were also guests of the show this afternoon. Banner Bound – is a new song in support of the Clare hurlers penned by the two young singers who are also hurlers. Eanna and Oisin who have been playing music together for a number of months in their local pub and have now turned their hand to supporting the Senior hurlers with a number of new songs.
