On The Afternoon Show today we heard from the people of Clare and their views on the controversy surrounding pay top ups at the Central Remedial Clinic. Clare FM’s Laoise Neylon spoke to people on the streets of Ennis about the scandal and asked if it will influence their charitable donations?

Barbara Wilson from the Our World Irish Aid Awards Project joined the show as last week saw the launch of the Awards for 2014. This year marks the ninth anniversary of the Awards, which were established by Irish Aid in 2005 to help children in Ireland understand global issues and the role of Ireland in meeting the United Nations’ eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Last year 33 schools in Clare took part in the programme, with St. Senan’s N. S. in Kilrush making it to the national finals. Through the 3 month programme, primary school students in Clare between the ages of 8 and 13 will learn about the lives of children in developing countries, and will then undertake a creative project to express what they have learned under a given theme. This year’s theme, ‘A Better Future for all the World’s Children’. For more details call Real Youth, their partner company, on 01 522 4834 or see www.ourworldirishaidawards.ie

Sonja O’Brien from Kilfenora also spoke to Máire ahead of an Energy Festival, which will take place at the Boghill centre in Kilfenora this weekend – the event is seeing a little revival – the last time it was held was over 15 years ago. There will be yoga, belly dancing, drumming and tai chi – and more besides. Check out www.bohgill.com

Rachel Dunne Lambe from The Junction discussed how a new Sit ‘n’ Knit group has been set up in the Junction Cafe, Cloughleigh Rd, Ennis. It runs every Thursday from 10.30am, starting on the 23rd January. All are Welcome! Just bring a project, start something new or just pop in for a chat!

Pip Sides is a Fine Art Photographer based in Kilbaha. Pip has a new show opening in Culturlann Sweeney, Kilkee – the launch night is tomorrow – Wednesday Jan 22nd. The exhibition is titled “All that is Solid Melts into Air” and is a joint show with artist painter Cathal Butler.  It runs until February 4th.
