Today’s show focussed on the issue of internet safety, in particular for kids. Clare FM’s Erin Hornibrook met listeners out on the streets to ask if you think, you, or indeed your kids are safe online? While Simon Grehan, an Internet Safety Expert joined the show to talk about “Safer Internet Day”, which takes place today – Tuesday 11th February. Safer Internet Day is an EU wide initiative, now in its 11th year, which promotes a safer Internet for all users, especially young people. This year’s call to action is, “Let’s Create a Better internet Together”.

Edwina Shanahan from Visafirst.com was also a guest of the show as visa experts say that while the peak has passed in the numbers leaving Ireland for work, there still remains a constant flow of skilled migrants moving abroad for better salaried job opportunities. Destinations like Australia, Canada, the US and New Zealand remain firm favourites. Since 2008 over 75,000 Irish have travelled to Australian on the one year working holiday visa.  Many of these workers have chosen to remain on in Australia once they can secure another visa. But they say that Canada is the “one to watch” in the coming years as Irish workers snap up visas as soon as the quotas are open. Visa First are hosting free information road shows in the coming days – in the Radisson Galway tomorrow Wednesday February 12th and in the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick on Monday 17th February.

Geraldine Enright from the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience also spoke to Máire about how their website has been short listed for another major digital award just weeks after finishing as a runner-up in the Eircom Golden Spider Awards. www.cliffsofmoher.ie has been short listed for the Samsung Digital Media Awards ‘Best in Travel & Tourism’ category, the winner of which will be announced on February 21st. The Cliffs of Moher website was launched in July 2013 having undergone a revamp that introduced a number of new features, including of an interactive guide to the visitor attraction and 360 degree panoramic views of the Cliffs and Visitor Centre.
