Joining Máire for The Friday Panel on The Afternoon Show today was Eoin Brennan, Sports Journalist at the Clare People and Director of gogaelic.ie, Aine Mae O’Mahoney from the Lahinch Playground Committee and Aidan Courtney, an Illustrator, Writer and Editor of RiRa Irish language magazine. They talked about how Shannon Airport is celebrating one of the most significant weeks of its short time as an independent facility, with over a dozen new services coming on stream. It includes nine new routes by Ryanair, to cities in France, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Spain, as well as a further new service to Bristol by Aer Lingus Regional. 1.4 million people travelled through Shannon last year, and management are aiming for a 10 per cent increase in 2014. The new flights were announced by the airlines after the government's abolition of the travel tax, a move, which came into effect this week. They also discussed how the GAA have confirmed details of their deal with Sky Sports, with the satellite broadcaster securing rights to 20 games in this year’s All-Ireland football and hurling championships. Under the terms of the deal, Sky Sports will broadcast 14 matches exclusively on the pay-per-view channel while also securing non-exclusive rights to the All-Ireland hurling and football semi-finals and finals. They touched on this weekend’s sporting action as Munster face Toulouse in the Heineken Cup Quarter Final tomorrow, while Clare Footballers heads to Antrim for their vital game – a win will mean promotion to Division 3.
