On Thursdays Morning Focus John began by speaking to Michael Ryan, Chair of the board of management at Labasheeda National School and Grainne Marrinan, Principal at Moyasta National School. It had been expected that this September would see Labasheeda National School reduced to a one teacher unit while Moyasta was due to have two. The change was down to a reduction in pupil numbers at both facilities.In recent months the Minister for Education had told Clare FM that each school would be dealt with on a case by case basis. Labasheeda will now have two teachers at the start of the new term while Moyasta will have three.
The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association is asking you to support their national awareness campaign by organising "Drink Tea for MND" events in your local community throughout this month – or to make a donation to their support services for those affected by the degenerative and debilitating neurological disorder.
To raise awareness of the condition locally John spoke to Patricia Flaherty Motor Neurone Disease Sufferer her Husband Patrick and Daughter Caroline. Up next John spoke to Michele Burke and John Ryan homeowners in Ard na Deirge, Killaloe. The ghost estate that we have reported on for the past number of years is finally being finished. Michelle and her partner William are delighted that they can finally move into their home at the end of the summer. It's been an 8 year long nightmare to get them to this point! John occupied his house in the ghost estate of Ard na Deirge in Killaloe last July. He says he is delighted that the developer now says they should be in the house by mid August. He's the whole ground floor done and was off yesterday buying bits for the house with his wife – they are thrilled with this happy ending!!
An Post Tour de Burren 2014 to boost the local economy by €300,000. it takes place the Saturday the 21st June in Ballyvaughan County Clare. 6,000 ltrs water, 2,000 fruit pastilles, 800 slices of cheescake and 8,000 slices of bread are some of the fuel sources that will help the 2,000 cyclists taking part in this year's An Post Tour de Burren. The event, in its 11th year is part of a national series of 5 cycles that take place from May to September around the country. John was joined in studio by Patrick O'Donoghue of The Burren Cycling Club and joint organiser of An Post Tour de Burren 2014, John Sweeney, of the Clare Sports Partnership and finally Louise Guerin. Member of the 0 to 60 beginner Ladies Cycle group – only started cycling in the last 2 months!! All three guests spoke about what is expected to be a fantastic weekend.
