On Fridays Morning Focus John began the show with a report from Morning Focus Producer Amy Ryan about the crash of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17. 298 passengers and crew are believed dead after it crashed in Ukraine yesterday. It was reportedly hit by a surface-to-air missile. More than half of those on board were Dutch, 27 were Australian and at least 9 are believed to have been UK citizens.
Up next John spoke to Emma Quinn – National Program Co-Ordinator – ERSI Author of Report “Migrant Access to Social Security and Healthcare: Policies and Practice. This report de-bunks myth that non-nationals claim a disproportionate amount of social welfare. Also on the line John was joined by Orla Ni-Eili – Project co-ordinator Clare Immigrant Support Centre. Orla welcomed the report and thanked Emma for debunking some common misconceptions.
Up next we returned to Granobo a small village in Ukraine 40km from the Russian border where a Malaysian Airlines flight crashed yesterday after it was hot down. Daniel McLaughlin – Irish Times Correspondent spoke to John from the crash scene. He described the horrific scene in front of him.

John spoke to Mary Hawkes Greene – President and Founder of the Burren College of Art about the festivities taking place and what is ahead for the Burren College of Art.
Next John spoke to Kate Mc Glennon who is representing Clare in the Miss Ireland contest on Saturday night. The young Ennistymon woman has just completed her second year of Midwifery studies in Dundalk and was first runner up in the Miss Sunday World Contest 2013. She discussed her ambitions and the competition with John.
