The newly elected Mayor of Clare has vowed not to tolerate any abuse by members of Clare County council during his term of office.

Shannon Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulcahy was elected unopposed to the office of Mayor of Clare on Friday evening at the AGM of Clare County Council.

However, the occasion was marred by persistent outbursts from Independent Councillor James Breen who voiced his dissatisfaction over the power sharing agreement brokered by representatives from Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Independents Group.

Councillor Mulcahy says that the Council has more important things to achieve and has vowed he will not tolerate any similar outbursts in the Chamber during his reign.
