Quilty Residents Continue To Fight For Permanent Flood Defences

Quilty residents who have been left devestated by recent coastal flooding say they will continue to seek permanent flood defences, despite the emergency works that are underway to protect their homes.

50 thousand euro is being spent by the Clare County Council on 1,000 one-tonne bags of rock and sand which is being used as interim barrier to defend over a dozen homes.

The local authority is hoping they can recoup the money being spent from relief funding from government.

While locals say they are delighted to see works commence ahead of fresh high tides in the coming weeks, they say they will continue their campaign for a sea wall.
