The Clare Branch of St Vincent De Paul is calling on the government to put measures in place to control rising rents.

The Clare Branch of St Vincent De Paul is calling on the government to put measures in place to control rising rents.

Latest figures show there has been a rise of 8 percent in rental costs in Clare in the past year, with the average person now paying 571 euro.

Tenants in the private rental sector who had rent increases in 2015 could face another increase in the coming months, if they've been paying the same rent for two years.

John Cullinane from Clare SVP says that many low income families are already struggling to pay and the rising cost is just one issue they're facing.
