Suggestions that lay ministers in the Diocese of Killaloe could officiate at gravesides in the near future have been played down.

That's despite the diocese pastoral plan to 2020 suggesting these and other measures to combat a crisis in the number of priests.
There are currently 82 priests covering the Diocese which ranges from Loop Head to Co. Offaly. Dozens of these are pensioners, however, and there is only one seminarian from here at present.
Kilalloe Diocesan spokesman Fr. Brendan Quinlivan says this poses a number of challenges.
