87% of households here now have some form of internet access, a figure which is in line with the national average.

These CSO figures show that not only do 87 per cent of homes in the MidWest have internet access, this figure has grown by 14 per cent since 2010.

At 51%, the rate of mobile broadband usage is among the highest in the country though people here are still more likely to have fixed broadband than in the West or Midlands.

As for those who aren't online, 40% cite a lack of skills and 46% say they don't need the internet.

One person in seven here has never used the internet, though more than two-thirds are online every day with phones the most commonly used type of device.

Two in five people have looked up health information online, while outside of Dublin people here are most likely to watch video content online.
