The Taoiseach made the decision in light of US President Donald Trump's travel ban, which is being enforced at both airports.

But calls have been made for the facilities here to be protected, the issue of Donald Trump's travel ban and the ramifications for pre-clearance at Shannon and Dublin airports was expected to dominate this morning's cabinet meeting.

It follows a decision by the Taoiseach to carry out a full review of operations here, amidst calls for an investigation into whether or not it's legal to implement the policy here.

Children's Minister Catherine Zappone is due to bring the matter to cabinet today.

She says US pre-clearance at Shannon and Dublin needs to be examined: 

Clare's Fianna Fáil TD insists that the removal of pre-clearance facilities at Shannon and Dublin Airports would impact negatively on the economy here.

Deputy Timmy Dooley has hit out at Trump's policy on immigrants but he says the pre-clearance facility must be protected. 

Meanwhile, the Communications Minister says Donald Trump's controversial travel ban is 'disgusting'.

The US President has already sacked the country's acting Attorney General Sally Yates after she refused to enforce the new immigration rules.

Minister Denis Naughten says its important the Government get clarity on the issue.
