The first four quarter finalists of the 2017 Clare Senior Hurling championship have been decided after this weekends second round action.

Sixmilebridge beat reigning champions Ballyea to advance to the last eight while Newmarket’s win over St Josephs saw them back into the knockout stages.

2016 runners up Clonlara got the better of Inagh/Kilnamona to reach the quarter finals once more, while Eire Óg saw off the challenge of Whitegate.

The draw for the third round will be made this evening with Clooney/Quin, Tulla, Cratloe, and O’Callaghans Mills in one pot with Ballyea, St Josephs, Whitegate and Inagh/Kilnamona in the other.

The relegation semi final line up will also be known, with Wolfe Tones, Feakle, Crusheen and Clarecastle all in danger of making the drop.

The draw gets underway this evening in Clare GAA Headquarters in Clareabbey at 6.15pm
