It’s claimed older people who are being removed from Community Employment Schemes are struggling to get back into the workforce.

A delegation from Clare County Council has met with Social Protection Minister Regina Doherty, urging her to remove the three-year cap on the scheme, saying over 55s are at a loss afterwards.

The scheme aims to help those in long-term unemployment get back into work in their own area – and during it they do a lot of community work.

Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom McNamara believes it’s unfair.
