Clare have opened the 2018 National Hurling League with victory over Tipperary.

A late David Reidy goal sealed a 1-21 to 0-19 win in Cusack Park.

The Banner played with the aid of a stiff breeze in the opening half, and led by 0-13 to 0-10 at the break.

The sides were level on 7 different occasions in the first 35 minutes but a late trio of scores saw Clare lead as they headed for the dressing room.

A strong opening ten minutes after the restart pushed the Banner 0-16 to 0-11 clear, but Tipperary fought back and the game was level at 0-17 each with 15 minutes to play.

Clare took control once more to go two points clear before Reidy hammered home a late goal to seal the win.

Next up for Clare is a trip to Nowlan Park to take on Kilkenny next Sunday afternoon.
