There’s been a 21% increase in the number of homeless adults in Clare in the run up to Christmas.
New figures from the Department of housing show there are now 80 adults in the county who don’t have a permanent roof over their head, while the number of children in emergency accommodation has also risen.
The latest figures from the Department of Housing show there are now 385 homeless adults in the Midwest, 80 of those in Clare.
It represents a 21% rise on banner figures in the space of month, and a 42% rise on the same period in 2017.
In the run up to Christmas, there were 81 families living in emergency accommodation in B&B’s Hostels and Hotels in Clare, among them 160 children.
This number is also up on October’s figures, but is down by 13 on November last year.
Nationally, the level of homelessness is also continuing to rise, with almost 10,000 people, including 4,000 children without a permanent roof over their head.
