The Joint Committee on Climate Action has agreed carbon tax rises.

Their report suggests raising carbon taxes incrementally up to 2030 with the first increase likely in time for budget 2020.

The report also suggests a raft of measures to improve public transport such as electrification and making services cheaper to use.

Carbon tax was the main sticking point though with a last minute agreement on an ”evidence-based plan” to support those on low incomes.

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley, who is his party’s Climate Spokesperson, says the proposal is aimed at protecting those who might experience ”fuel poverty” created by carbon taxes.
