Today’s show was full of breaking national news stories as well as local coverage. We reflected on the longest murder trial in the history of the state, a new Beach Ambassadors scheme coming to Kilkee and Lahinch in June plus we had skin experts from Ennis Medical Aesthetics to teach us about skincare. Firstly on Morning Focus, Ennis-born author and journalist Seán O’Driscoll reflected on the Patrick Quirke murder trial that came to a close yesterday, sentencing him to life in prison for murdering Bobby Ryan. The trial which has gripped the nation is the longest in the state’s history. Listen back to hear more:

Then we heard from Catríona Gleeson from Safe Ireland about how the government are moving to criminalise revenge porn. This bill would also target upskirting, stalking and sending threatening messages online, as the state concentrates on how technology and social media play a part in crime.

Next on Morning Focus, we spoke to Leonore O’Neill, Senior Executive with Clare County Council about the new Beach Ambassadors scheme which is coming to Lahinch and Kilkee this June. O’Neill explains that there will be officers on hand five hours a day, seven days a week to engage with the public, maintain public amenities and litter pick.

Afterwards, we got a reaction to the scheme from Michael Vaughan, Lahinch Hotelier and Former Chair of Irish Hotel Federation. He also discussed the tourism outlook in North Clare with the Irish Open and Brexit uncertainties!

Patrick McCormack, the owner of the house and star of The Silver Branch was also on the air to tell us more about what we can expect at the event this Sunday, 4-8pm.
