It has taken an ambulance at least an hour to arrive at a life-threatening emergency 123 times this year.

According to details released under the Freedom of Information Act, 26 of the cases were in Wexford.

It took more than an hour and 20 minutes for an ambulance to attend a call in Clare, while in another case in Mayo, it took nearly four hours.

Health guidelines say an ambulance should arrive at life-threatening emergencies in less than 19 minutes in 80 percent of cases.

Stephen McMahon from the Irish Patients Association says the new stats are a big worry.
