The Justice Minister hopes an agreement can be reached soon on a new date for the controversial RIC commemoration.

It was planned for Friday week but has been deferred following backlash over the police forces’ association with the ‘Black and Tans.’

Charlie Flanagan says he’ll now sit down with all interested parties in the hope of setting a new date for the months ahead.

He says it’s important the commemoration takes place as it’s a symbol of reconciliation.

But the Mayor Of Clare, who was the first to boycott the planned commemoration says the decision not to hold the event next week was the right one.

Meelick Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe believes it’s wrong to commemorate the organisation as a whole.
