Clare Mayor Describes AIB Cashless Decision As ‘Devastating Blow’ To Rural Communities

The Mayor of Clare is describing AIB’s decision to convert four of its branches in Clare to cashless operations later this year as a ‘devastating blow’ to those communities.

The bank’s operations in Killaloe, Ennistymon, Kilrush and Shannon will no longer offer cash and cheque services at the counter, or through machines inside the bank, from the autumn.

A further 66 branches across the country are impacted by the move.

AIB claims it’s making the change as part of a 40 million euro investment programme and an expanding relationship with An Post.

Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council and Killaloe-based Fianna Fail Councillor Tony O’ Brien has been telling Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville that he believes Government intervention is needed on the matter.
