Leading Economist Warns Introduction Of Rent Pressure Zones Might Not Help The Market

A leading economist has warned that rent pressure zones could be making the market worse.

It comes as the latest Daft.ie report, published today, shows the average monthly rent for a home in Clare stood at just below €1,200 in the last three months of last year, an almost 10% increase on the same period the previous year.

The author of the report says while Clare is witnessing a slowdown after higher then national average increases in 2021, the underlying issue of the lack of homes on the market is not going to go away this year.

RPZs are set to be discussed by Clare County Councillors at their monthly meeting this afternoon and Ronan Lyons has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill, that while they protect those already renting, they’re doing very little for people on the move.
