Clare Public Urged To Avail Of Free Children’s Nasal Flu Vaccine

The UL Hospitals Group and HSE Midwest are urging parents to avail of the free nasal spray flu vaccine for children.

Children are twice as likely to catch cases of pneumonia, bronchitis, and brain inflammation from flu than adults, while in the last decade 5,000 minors have been hospitalised as a result.

The nasal spray vaccine is free at participating GPs and pharmacies for all children aged 2-12 years and children aged 13-17 who are deemed to be at high risk.

Pediatric Respiratory Consultant at the Children’s Ark in University Hospital Limerick Dr Daryl Butler says many illnesses can be entirely avoided through the administration of the nasal flu vaccine.
