Clare’s Sinn Féin TD has decribed the number of eviction warning letters sent to Clare tenants during the pandemic as “astonishing” but “unsurprising”.

86 warning letters threatening eviction, have been sent to tenants in rent arrears in this county between Ausut 2020 and May this year, while there were less than 30 self-declarations recorded over the same period.

A new planning act came into force in January, requiring those in financial difficulty as a result of the pandemic to meet certain criteria in order to retain protection, but those who can’t, or don’t fill in the Self-Declaration, can be served with warning letters.

Kilrush Deputy Violet Anne Wynne has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that better protection is needed for those in this county struggling to pay rent.
