Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer is urging people not to be conned into handing over money to bogus tradesmen, following an incident at a house in Clarecastle.

Two men called to a house on St Joseph’s Terrace last Monday and told the owner they were checking for dampness.

The female occupant, who had been waiting for the Council to paint her house questioned them and they told her they were sub-contracted by the local authority and would require an upfront payment of €250 before carrying out work.

The lady unfortunately paid the males and they left on foot without carrying out any work.

Garda Sergeant Triona Brooks says you should never open your door to unknown callers.
