Clare’s Green Party Councillor is expressing concern that the misspelling of popular tourist destinations on our road signage could be damaging for the areas.

Lahinch native Liam Grant raised the topic at the latest meeting of the West Clare Municipal District where he called for the spelling of his hometown and others like Corofin and Ennistymon to be rectified.

Responding to the motion, Senior Executive for the West Clare Municipal District, John O’Malley, informed local representatives that it would be arduous process to change the contested signage and would involve a plebiscite of councillors before anything could be done.

Councillor Grant is calling for a vote to be held, due fears over the confusion it could cause for tourists.
