Ennis has been named as Ireland’s tidiest town.

The winners of the SuperValu ‘Tidy Towns’ Competition have been announced at the annual awards this lunchtime.

Ennis beat off competition from 847 volunteer groups across the country.

It also won the Tidiest Large Urban Centre award, and beat competition from Geashill in Co Offaly, Abbeyleix in Laois, and Cobh in Co. Cork for the overall prize.

Minister Heather Humphreys has announced funding of 1.5 million euro for Tidy Towns organisations nationwide at today’s ceremony.

Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard says it’s a great day for the town.
