Clare County Council says the new Inis Cealtra visitor centre on Holy Island could be operational by 2023.
Works are being carried out to convert the area into a tourist attraction with the next step being the completion of the design for the restoration of the old rectory structure.
It’s expected a successful contractor will be selected by the end of this year.
Whitegate based Fine Gael councillor, Pat Burke, says he is satisfied with the progress of the project, which he hopes will bring a huge boost to East Clare.
