Clare TD Violet Anne Wynne has expressed hope that she will be able to represent the people of this county more effectively now that obstacles created by structures within Sinn Féin have been removed.
The Kilrush-based Deputy resigned from the party last Friday, amid claims that she had been subjected to what she’s described as ‘psychological warfare’ against her.
Nearly two years on from winning Sinn Féin’s first seat in this county in nearly a century, Violet Anne Wynne resigned from the party last Friday.
In a statement she claimed she was subjected to “gaslighting measures” and “psychological warfare” and that the issues leading to her resignation were mainly at a local level.
In response, Sinn Féin said the party worked extremely hard over the last two years to resolve challenges at constituency level and that this work was continuing.
But today, the Kilrush-based Deputy says her resignation was i06nevitable due to a culmination of reasons such as issues with communication and collaboration.
Deputy Wynne says procedures at a national level should trickle down to local constituency areas and that a serious conversation needs to be had within the Sinn Féin party in order to resolve these problems.
Deputy Wynne, who recently gave birth to her sixth child, has hit out over the reaction she received within the party after announcing her pregnancy.
She says that experience made it hit home that she wasn’t getting the support she needed.
Violet Anne Wynne will remain in her seat, but as an Independent.
She’s expressed hope that this will mean that she’ll be able to represent the people of this county more effectively, now that obstacles created by her former party are removed.
