A North Clare Councillor is calling on the Irish Coast Guard to ensure safeguarding measures are put in place so that the issues which led to the Doolin unit being stood down aren’t repeated.

The branch was stood down from search and rescue operations last November after six members resigned from their roles, citing interpersonal issues.

The Doolin unit is now to be reconstituted on an interim basis and it’s believed eight members have already been recruited.

Lisdoonvarna Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy has been telling Clare FM’s Rebecca O’Sullivan that while the news is very welcome, lessons need to be learned.
