The number of new homes completed in Clare in the first quarter of this year was more than double that in the same period in 2021.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show 151 properties were signed off on in this county between January and March.

House building in this county is on the up according to the CSO – just 45 houses were completed in the first three months of 2012.

A decade on, that number has more than trebled to 151 and has been steadily growing over the last number of years.

While the speed of completions slowed in 2020 and 2021, presumably on account of the pandemic, 145 further houses were signed off on at the end of last year.

Around a third of the new builds completed so far in 2022 are in Ennis, with a further 34 built in the North Clare area.

25 houses were finished off by builders in the East of the county, while 20 were completed in the Shannon electoral area.

A further 19 were built in West Clare.

Though the increase in completed homes in this county will be welcomed, there’s no doubt both private developers and the State will be under significant pressure to continue to deliver even higher numbers in the short to medium term.
