Efforts to address the gender imbalance in politics in Clare are stepping up a gear this week.

Currently only 4 of the 28 Councillors in this county are women with only nine ever elected to Clare County Council, since Madeline Taylor and Patricia McCarthy won a seat back in 1979.

A Clare County Council sponsored event promoting and supporting greater involvement by women from diverse backgrounds in local government is taking place at Glór tomorrow.

Dr Michelle Maher of the See Her Elected project, which is hosting the event says women can’t be what they can’t see.
