An Ennis childcare provider is accusing the Government of ‘beating around the bush’ when it comes to adequately increasing funding for the sector.

It comes as Early Childhood Ireland is calling on Ministers to provide a five-year plan for the industry in September’s budget.

The State has already pledged to double its investment in childcare by 2028, with current public funding standing at around €640 million, which is lower than many other EU countries.

Connie Hannon, of Teach Abhaile Child Care Pre School & Naíonra in Ennis, wants Children’s Minister Roderic O’ Gorman to bring that promise forward to prevent facility closures.
