Seanad will reconvene to discuss organ donation law

The Seanad is to break its summer recess and re-convene on Tuesday August 20th to discuss EU organ donation law.

The move follows a petition from twenty senators to debate the regulations.

For the law to be changed, the approval of the Dáil would be required before the end of the month, which is seen as unlikely to happen.

Meanwhile,

A new opinion poll shows nearly half of voters would support the abolition of the Seanad.

The Red C survey for Paddy Power has also found that 36 percent of Irish people are in favour of keeping the upper house.

Earlier in the summer the Seanad passed a bill providing for a referendum on its own abolition.
