A planning application to erect a 30m high telecommunications tower in North Clare has been withdrawn.

The application, from Vantage Towers, promised to improve Vodafone coverage in the Doolin area by putting up a new structure.

Vantage Towers LTD, an independent company created from the Vodafone group in 2020 had submitted an application to Clare County Council to erect a new telecoms tower at Gortaclob, near Doolin village.

The application included plans for a 30 metre high lattice telecommunications support structure together with antennae dishes and associated equipment, all enclosed in security fencing and to extend an existing access track.

In a letter addressed to Clare County Council, Vodafone Property Manager, Hanel Gallogly, argued that the site would provide improved coverage to the residents and visitors to the area and that the failure to progress the development could have a ‘negative future impact’.

This application followed the refusal by the local authority for Vantage Towers to erect a similar mast in Moyarta.

The company has since withdrawn its application and won’t be progressing plans to develop the site.
