The Ennis-based president of the Tesla Owners of Ireland group says service stations and other providers need to be incentivised to install charge points for electric vehicles.

A new report published by the Northern and Western Regional Assembly claims that a lack of charging points in rural areas is impacting the uptake of electric vehicles.

The report shows that Clare currently has 89 charge points, ranking 12th out of the 32 counties.

Ennis resident John Casey says the cost of installing charging points in areas where businesses may not have the passing trade to pay back their investment needs to be addressed.
