A former Mayor of Clare insists ‘all’ Councillors in this county are against a rates increase for businesses in 2023.

Elected representatives will vote on next year’s Budget next week, having opted to increase rates for the first time in over a decade last year.

It comes amid calls for the Government to provide more funding to Clare County Council to deal with rising energy and construction costs.

Ennis-based Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard insists raising rates is not the way to plug the gap in the local authority’s finances caused by inflation.
