Over 30% Drop In Number Of Births In Clare In Past Decade

There’s been a more than 30% drop in the number of births registered in Clare in the past decade.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office shows a total of 325 children were born in the banner in second quarter of this year.

Between April and June of 2012, a total of 447 children were born to mothers in Clare.

 

10 years on and this figure has dropped by more than 31%.

Of the 325 births registered in the county in the second quarter of 2022, 27 were to women aged 40 and over and one was to a mother aged under 20.

The number of women over 40 having babies in Clare has dropped by a third in the past decade, while the number of women having children before the age of 20 in this county has dropped by over 170%.

There were 240 deaths registered in Clare between April and June of this year.

124 were male and 116 were female.

The most common cause of death was cancer, with 76 people in the county dying from the disease.

60 deaths occured due to circulatory issues and 28 were due to respiratory problems.

There were four deaths recorded where Covid-19 was identified during this period.
