Public order offences in Clare have reduced significantly over the last number of years.

Gardai in this county recorded a drop of more than half in incidents in 2021 compared to 2016.

Data released to the Oireachtas by the Department of Justice shows 693 public order offences were recorded in Clare back in 2015, and this jumped by 7 percent the following year to 742.

However, the number of incidents documented has dropped year-on-year since then, falling by nearly a third by the end of 2019.

Then came the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, with senior Garda personnel have already said publicly that a fall in such crimes was expected due to the shutting down of society and the economy for long periods.

396 public order offences were recorded in Clare in 2020, which fell very slightly to 382 in 2021.

219 such incidents were documented here in the first half of this year, signifying a very slight increase in 2022 if that trend has carried on.

A total of 6,888 public order offences have been recorded by the Clare Garda Division since 2015.
