On Thursday’s Morning Focus, Alan was joined by Martina Rynne who is the Clare Services Manager for Brothers of Charity Services in County Clare and Councillor Anne Norton who has a daughter called Nicole who avails of the services. The duo discussed the initiative being carried out across the mid-west region in counties Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary called ‘Home Share Short Breaks’. They described the initiative which is calling on potential hosts to open their doors to children and adults with disabilities in order to give them a break away from their normal home environment. Martina highlighted the significance of this campaign which will assist both children and adults with disabilities and their families who will therefore benefit from a break from continual care. She highlighted that there are currently 48 family hosts in the banner county and is hoping there are many more families out there willing to take part in the initiative. Anne mentioned her own daughters use of the service and complimented the ongoing work that is being carried out throughout the Mid-West region. She made reference to Nicole’s own personal relationship with her family host and described the connection and bond she has created with the family over the years. Martina also stated some of the criteria in place in order to become a family host.
If you wish to get involved in this initiative, you can do so by calling Karen Downes 087-923-5130 or by emailing [email protected].
