It is claimed a specific retrofit scheme is required to make refurbished vacant and derelict properties in Clare into “future-proofed” homes.

Clare County Council is continuing to receive applications for its Croí Conaithe Vacant and Derelict Property Refurbishment Grant with 100 submitted to the local authority as of June of this year.

Owing to the fact that many building being repurposed under the scheme have outdated architecture, calls have been made for a “specific retrofit scheme with clear guidelines and criteria on older buildings and stone cottages” to be introduced to enable homeowners to avail of SEAI fundings more easily.

Lisdoonvarna Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy raised a motion at this month’s Clare County Council meeting seeking such a scheme to achieve “best possible outcomes and energy efficient homes”.
